Police officer swerves in front of Mercedes SUV to save parade

A police officer reacted like an onlooker when a Mercedes SUV went streaking down a small town street after a high-speed chase Wednesday afternoon.

She turned her body in the road to protect the parade participants who were behind the SUV, seemingly caught off guard and unaware it was driving so erratically, according to a video of the incident.

“Move over,” the officer says in the footage as the SUV rolls toward the crowd.

The police officer could be seen there several seconds before running in front of the car to push it away, according to CNN affiliate KPIX.

The SUV then slowly drove out of view and the officer turned away from the crowd. Police found the driver in the SUV around 6:20 p.m. Thursday, the police department said.

Police did not immediately say why the driver was running from police and no charges have been filed.

Kevin Noonan said he was about 40 feet from the crash.

“She just keeps drifting into lanes of traffic. Then she goes really hard and kind of it turns into a spin and spins back,” Noonan told KPIX.

“She gets into the parade and she just started running behind her car, she passes cars and she goes past a policeman and then she starts coming up on people.”
